Lady Gethin

Grace Gethin was the wife of Richard Gethin, an Irish Noble who was given the
title Baron Gethin of Gethinsgrott, Cork, on August 1st 1665. As a result of
Richard’s Baronetcy, Grace became Lady Gethin and  later she became one of Carolan’s patrons.
Lady Gethin was known as an essayist and a learned woman. Grace died at the age
of 21. Her mother, Lady Frances Norton, who was an English, religious author and
poet, wrote primarily about grief and particularly about the loss of her daughter.
Her parents paid for two memorials to be erected in her memory, one of which is in
Westminster Abbey.
